Year 7 Positive Futures and Leeds Girls Can
Personal development is at the core of our ethos at Mount St Mary’s and we believe that students should receive equal opportunities to flourish and grow outside the classroom, just as much as inside the classroom.
The Positive Futures and Leeds Girls Can was launched to our Year 7 students to enable new friendships to blossom and provide an opportunity to intrinsically develop. The invited students spent time off site from 10am-2pm every Wednesday or Friday to take part in sporting activities that they may not otherwise engage in. During this time, they also attended workshops based on Resilience, barriers to physical activity, healthy relationships, red flags, body image, female hygiene, wellbeing and coping strategies.
Students have now been taught how to rock climb, skateboard, ride mountain bikes and ice skate by professional instructors, alongside learning relevant and important information during their workshops.
It was fantastic to see the cohorts demonstrate so much engagement with this opportunity, whilst stepping out of their comfort zones to take on new and exciting challenges. During the programmes, all students demonstrated enthusiasm, teamwork, Respect and Resilience to the best of their abilities. I believe they fully seized the opportunities they were presented with to learn something new and improve their knowledge and understanding of important topics, which will support them on their pathway to success during their time at Mount St Marys.
We could not be prouder of the progress they have made in terms of personal growth and development, and we hope that they take their excellent engagement with them into the next academic year.
