On Thursday 7th July it was our Transition Day, where we gave a warm welcome to the Year 6 students who will be joining us in September. It was amazing to see so many happy smiling faces in the school hall at the start of the day, and the smiles were even larger by the end of the day!
The Year 6s started their day being welcomed by Mrs West (Year Leader) and Mr Cooper (Headteacher) in a school assembly. The students then gathered in their form groups with their form tutor to complete a tour of the school and discuss our Year group vision of “Write your Future”. The form tutors discussed the importance of making the right decisions every day and taking every opportunity to develop reading and literacy skills.
The Year 6 students then went off to experience different lessons around the school. In Science, they used Bunsen burners and discussed how they could light up their future at Mount St Mary’s. In Technology, they made key rings and discussed what the key to their future was. In Performing Arts, they acted out how different decisions make different futures. Finally, in Catering, they discussed what makes the right ingredients for their future.
The Year 7 team were so impressed with how all of the students contributed to the day and showed such a positive attitude towards their learning and each other. We have started to build a strong community, and the journey is only just beginning!
