Years 7 – 9 Rowing Team
In December we took a boys’ team to our first interschools rowing competition. It was a team of 6, made up of 2 competitors each from Years 7, 8 and 9. We competed against 4 other schools and the event, organised by the Leeds Rowing Club and Youth Coaching development squad, took place at Trinity Academy. The squad included McKaile Waker, Divine Mela, David Tiny, Zoel Deji, Yaried Alem and Joaquin Soto-Gonzalez.
In the Year 7 event both Devine and McKaile performed well. It was their first time participating in a school event and both boys achieved Personal Bests.
Zoel and David represented us in the Year 8 race. In a close race David achieved another Personal Best and Zoel managed to finish 2nd. The result may have been even better had he not slipped off his seat halfway through the race!
The final event for Year 9 saw Joaquin and Yaried representing school. In a fantastic race the boys finished 1st and 2nd, with Joaquin being crowned winner and Year 9 boys’ champion.
In February we will be entering boys’ and girls’ teams into the National Indoor Junior Rowing championships. Watch this space…
