Rhinos 9s Super League

We took 11 very eager Year 9 students to Garforth Academy to play in the “Rhinos 9s Super League” on Tuesday 16 May. We played against Brigshaw, Oulton, Leeds West, Pudsey Grammar and Garforth. Unfortunately, we only won one game against Garforth, who we drew with in our last tournament.

The team were upset and a little defeated, however, they have come so far and put in some unbelievable performances. We lost 1-0 against Pudsey in our first game which was extremely close and could have ended 0-0 had they not managed to cross the line in the final minutes of the game. We lost 3-2 against Brigshaw who again scored in the final minute to secure their win.

There are so many positives that the team need to focus on…

  • In preparation for these 2 tournaments, they have trained together once.
  • When we went for our first tournament no team could deal with them and we walked through to the Super League tournament because of their hard work and determination on the pitch.
  • The boys never gave up, they kept putting in fantastic defensive efforts making it very difficult for the opposing teams to score.
  • Both schools, Oulton and Leeds West were made up of students who all play together outside of school for the same club. This is very difficult for any school team who haven’t had the same time together as they have.

All in all, they should be very proud of what they have achieved and how much they have developed throughout this year. This team managed to get into the Super League to play against the best schools in Leeds. We also cannot forget that we also made it to the Finals night earlier in the year, where we drew against every team we played.

The team are a pleasure to work with and they should be extremely proud of themselves, despite this recent result.

Thanks,

Mr S Cooper
