Positive Choices Day
On Wednesday 24th April Year 9 students were involved in a Positive Choices event, run in partnership with the Leeds United Foundation and West Yorkshire Police. The intent behind the day was to help our students to make the right choices in their lives outside of school, not only now, but in the future when they leave Mount St Mary’s.
Throughout the day, students participated in several enrichment activities and events, listening to guest speakers cover a number of important issues including gang affiliation, knife crime, grooming, substance misuse and negative relationships, whilst sharing their ‘lived experience’. These sessions raised awareness of the impact which wrong choices can have on your own life and the lives of others. We are so proud of the maturity, engagement and enthusiasm shown by our students and were overwhelmed by the positive feedback from our visitors about their experiences on the day and the clear support that they showed for our school ethos.
As a school, we are always seeking out opportunities to prepare students for their lives beyond Mount St Mary’s, and will continue to provide chances for students to grow, develop and enhance their knowledge of the world around them. We would like to thank the excellent volunteers who delivered the sessions on the day and the Leeds United Foundation for offering such an important educational opportunity.
