Pathway to Success
Year 8 Options Evening

Our Year 8 students have recently gone through the options process, and as they look towards their GCSE studies, which they will begin in Year 9, we hope that they feel well informed and confident about the decisions that they have made. We wish to provide students with the best possible educational experience at Mount St Mary’s throughout the next phase of their journey and direct them toward their future career paths.
As part of this process, students took part in two drop-down days during which they participated in taster sessions of GCSE subjects, before the Options Evening that took place on 22nd March. There was a great turn out to this event, and it was wonderful to see the students and their families so engaged with such an important process. Students were asking teachers brilliant questions and were fully immersed in the evening. Undoubtedly, they took advantage of every opportunity presented to them, including discussing the content of each subject, the requirements of the courses on offer and the workload expectations in each subject area, so students could visualise their next three years. As a Year team, we will continue to support them in every aspect of the decision process that will follow.
Displays included textbook resources and examples of work from previous students and Young Leaders were there to answer any questions from a student point of view and give reassurance to those who needed it. There was a lively atmosphere on the evening, and the Year Office would like to thank the parental contributions from the night. Mr Hawkins was overwhelmed by the length of time taken by families to get the most out of the evening, and at the end stated: “The students continuously make me so proud to be their Year Leader. It has been a pleasure to see them take on such a big milestone with responsibility whilst displaying the best versions of themselves. Well done Year 8!”
