Leavers’ Mass
On June 28th we said an emotional goodbye to our Year 11 students. After the fun of leavers assembly in the morning, students re-joined us, along with their parents and carers, at St Anne’s Cathedral for the Annual Year 11 Leavers Mass.
We were delighted that Bishop Marcus was able to celebrate this Mass for us, as it ensured there was a beautiful and symbolic end to our students’ time at Mount St Mary’s. The congregation were exceptional and the students in Year 11 ensured the Mass was exemplary. Leigha McDowell led the procession, holding the banner of Mount St Mary’s and representing her year group with pride, several other students then followed her footsteps reading with maturity and confidence way beyond their years. Beatrice, Adedolapo, Vanessa, Lily, Casey, Yonatan and Cindy did a phenomenal job reading with passion and helping convey the key messages of Mass through our readings and bidding prayers.
During Mass we were treated to the stunning sounds of the school choir and the additional Year 11 students who had joined the ranks to create a heavenly sound across the cathedral. Mr Flynn was so proud of all his students who overcame their confidence issues and stood there representing Year 11, you did an amazing job.
Gabriel and Lorna our Head Boy and Girl took the chance to encourage students to thank teachers and fellow students for their support over the years. When drawing to a conclusion they reminded students that they will always have a place at Mount St Mary’s.
Finally, the ceremony ended with an emotional address from Mr Cooper, who wished Year 11 well and thanked them for their efforts.
When Mass had finished students, parents and carers met at Wheeler Hall to share refreshments and say an emotional goodbye. Students took the chance to take photos and try on their leavers’ hoodies before departing into the night. All students involved gave their year team and school a great sense of pride as they helped deliver an exceptional Leavers’ Mass, together as one community.
