International Women’s Week
This year, the campaign for International Women’s Day, was #BreaktheBias, and at Mount St Mary’s we wanted to ensure we dedicated a whole week to exploring this theme.
Throughout the week, we looked at different women from different career paths (it was national career week too!) during form time. Students discussed the achievements of these women, in particular considering how they have experienced and overcome gender bias to get where they are. One of the women actually ended up being our very own Amelia Uminska, who has just been elected as a member of the UK Youth Parliament!
The assemblies for each year group this week were led by our students. They did a phenomenal job of making their message clear: we need gender parity across the world.
Well done to these students – and thank you for sharing your message so brilliantly!
Year 7: Bianca and Priscila
Year 8: Vanessa and Naeve
Year 9: Miracle and Hana
Year 10: Wiktoria and Medhim
Year 11: Paris T and Althea
Finally, Friday’s PSHCE session gave us the chance to have real honest conversations about gender bias. Lots of discussions were had, and students were hugely engaged and respectful to their peers. It was so brilliant to see students listening to their peers’ experiences, reflecting on their own, and ultimately pledging to challenge and deconstruct gender bias moving forward.
