Year 7 Pastoral Day & Welcome Mass

On Thursday 10 October we celebrated our new Year 7 community with their Pastoral Day during the day, followed by a Welcome Mass in the evening.

Throughout the day our students participated in a selection of activities in their House teams, including creating and showcasing their House banners ready for the evening celebrations. The Year 7 team could not have been prouder of the way that our students conducted themselves throughout these activities and the energy that they afforded to all the tasks that they were set.

In the evening, we welcomed the Year 7 students back to Mount St Mary’s, along with their families, to attend their Welcome Mass, where a selection of students representing their form groups were chosen to give Mass readings and lead the procession.

A huge thank you for the fantastic support we received. It was amazing to see so many families and students together to celebrate the start of each student’s journey. A special thank you goes to our Year 7 readers and the Mass band. At the end of the Welcome Mass, Year 7 students came together enthusiastically to dance, finishing off a unique and special day.

House Captains Applications

Our House system would be nothing without the valued input from our students here at MSM.

House Captain Applications recently opened for students in Years 7-10 and is the first real opportunity for students to get involved and gain experience as a leader within school. The House Leaders were overwhelmed with the quality and quantity of applications, with over 150 students applying for the roles.

There is a real buzz around school and students are finding out whether or not they have been successful as the real work begins! Congratulations to all that applied and to our NEW House Captains.

Staff House Meeting

Here at MSM we are focussing on how we are one school, one community and STRONGER TOGETHER.

Our recent staff House meeting was on this theme and saw staff testing their general knowledge individually with a Kahoot challenge, before uniting in Houses for a scavenger hunt.

Staff were tasked with locating objects for each letter of STRONGER TOGETHER with points awarded for the most creative objects used. Staff rose to the challenge and showed how Spear Trumpet Raspberry Octopus Nescafé Guillotine Example Ring we can be when we work together.

Staff House Tournament https://mountstmarys.org.uk/staff-house-tournament/ Fri, 08 Oct 2021 14:16:51 +0000 https://mountstmarys.org.uk/?p=11501

Our staff at MSM have recently competed in their first two events to gain points for their Houses and set the standard for the rest of the school. All staff took part in a challenging Academic Smackdown with fiendish questions from the Year 7 curriculum and every question and point was hard fought for. Staff were not allowed to compete in rounds relating to their own subjects and so had to draw on their knowledge to compete. Congratulations to St Luke who won this staff event and hope to replicate this success when students compete in this event later in the academic year.

Staff simultaneously competed in the inaugural Super Smash Cricket. Inspired by the speed of The Hundred cricket competition, this event saw each House facing unlimited attempts to bat in their allocated times, with the other three houses fielding and attempting to prevent scoring! This was a very close event which was narrowly won by St John. Well done!
