Year 10 Rising Up to the challenge!

Humanities Support

123 students stayed behind on 11 June 2024 for a voluntary Humanities session before their mock exam the following week. At this point in the year, this level of commitment is great to see and I could not be prouder of their efforts.

Thank you to all staff who have built the momentum and supported students to get them to value the sessions so much. It is great to see students rising to the challenge. I would love to see another department beat this total!

Year Leader

Remembrance Day Poems

As part of our Year 9 initiative to honour Remembrance Sunday, a number of students wrote some poems about the Great War, which reflected the sacrifices made by others to give us a better future. These were incredibly moving and captured the vision of the Great War and the personal experiences of soldiers in a very thought provoking and emotive manner. The emotional maturity demonstrated by the Year 9 students who produced poems, and the power of the content that they included, is testament to their ability to display empathy and recognise the importance of life. It was lovely to see so many students take part in this task, which was an optional event, and demonstrate their outstanding writing skills and historical knowledge. Thank you to all of those who seized this opportunity!

History Hub visit to Leeds Discovery Centre

On Tuesday 6th June, Mrs Milner and 10 History Hub students visited Leeds Discovery Centre.

They had the opportunity to handle different objects and documents from the Victorian period. The most exciting part of their visit was exploring the object store that holds over 1 million different artefacts. Students saw objects from thousands of years ago to the present day.

It really is a hidden gem right in the heart of Leeds City Centre. We are already planning our next visit!

Year 7 History

Our Year 7 History students have recently taken part in an enquiry into who should become the next medieval King of England, following the death of Edward the Confessor in 1066.

They were presented with multiple contenders to the throne, alongside a set of attributes and other pieces of source information to be used to support their own argument for a chosen candidate. Some students went above and beyond producing a presentation that raised a number of accurate and well articulated points.

These students were brave enough to deliver their presentation to the class and subject teacher, Mr Hawkins, who were all overwhelmed by the effort and intelligence demonstrated. We are extremely proud of all Year 7 History students for their consistent enthusiasm in lessons, but would like to recognise the maturity, resilience and responsibility shown through this activity by
Medet Segheed and Heran Yosief!
