Library Tea Party

On Thursday 21st December we had a wonderful celebration in the library with 35 students from Years 7 – 10, to reward the fantastic amount of reading that has been done this term.

Students invited to the tea party had completed their remarkable reading sticker – where they earned 15 stamps! To get a stamp, students must read a book or pass a quiz on Accelerated Reader.

We shared cakes, sweet treats and drinks, as well as Christmas music and it was lovely to see the students celebrating together.

Well done to these students who have shown dedication to their reading practice and for earning their reading stamps.

On Thursday 25th May, the Year 9 team and English Department had the pleasure of taking 157 Year 9 students and 28 Year 10 students, to the Leeds Playhouse to watch the matinée showing of ‘Of Mice and Men.’ The trip was a real success and the students gained a fantastic experience from seeing a live adaptation of the novella they have thoroughly enjoyed studying during their lessons.

Thank you to our students for demonstrating such enthusiasm and respect in what was a very special environment. Hopefully, it has further ignited a love of Literature and seeing it being brought to life on stage. We hope that this is one of many theatre trips our students enjoy as part of the English curriculum.

Year 11
Exam Preparation

To support our Year 11 students with their exam preparation, the Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL), have offered their conference facilities for subject specific workshops.

Staff and students from English, Maths, Science and Modern Foreign Languages spent a full day on four separate Saturdays in April and May, preparing for the 2022 GCSE exams.

These workshops were in addition to the weekly booster sessions offered throughout the year, and the focused face to face sessions during the Easter and May half-term breaks

Year 11 Holiday Homework Challenge

30 Year 11 students were given a half term holiday challenge to support their progress in English and Maths.

After their work was assessed, the students attended a number of lunch time sessions to receive feedback and make improvements.

Each successful student was awarded with additional resources to support their future exam preparation.
